Here comes NBC! Whitney Cummings picked up to series. UPDATE: Up All Night, Smash, Prime Suspect too

It’s going to be another wild night.

Deadline reports that NBC has started off by picking up Whitney Cummings starring comedian Whitney Cummings. The multicam centers on a couple that must deal with being in a relationship in today’s world.

Alpha Mom stars Christina Applegate, Will Arnett, and Maya Rudolph. Applegate plays Reagan, whose new baby proves a little too much to handle. The series is produced by Saturday Night Life Lorne Michaels.

Smash stars Debra Messing and Katherine McPhee. It centers on down-and-out producers, directors, writers, and actors who attempt to put on a Marilyn Monroe musical. Prime Suspect is a remake of the British original. Maria Bello plays a woman who fights to make herself heard in the gritty, male-dominated New York police world.

UPDATE: Nellie Andreeva reports that Alpha Mom has been renamed Up All Night.

UPDATE 2: Unsurprisingly, NBC has pulled the plug on The Event.

Lie to me canceled

Lie to me has been canceled. It’s been an especially bad week for creator Shawn Ryan’s whose Terriers and The Chicago Code have been canceled this pass season. Ryan was showrunner for Lie to me during its second year.

Interestingly enough, Fringe is the lone bubble survivor.
