NBC Day 2… what to expect

NBC will continue their series pickups today: most of the pickups and cancellations have to be finished by today (at the latest, tomorrow) so the actors can be given enough time to schedule travel plans to New York for NBC’s Monday upfront.

Last night, NBC picked up four UMS produced shows: Up All Night, Whitney, Prime Suspect, and Smash. The peacock is expected to continue negotiations today with 20th Century Fox in order to secure licensing fees for Awake (fka REM) and The Playboy Club. That news could come at any time.

There are still a decent amount of question marks on how today will go down. While Harry’s Law and Parenthood are good for renewals, NBC’s big question mark is Law & Order: LA. The series receive a complete reboot that failed to catch on with viewers, but Dick Wolf has a lot of clout at NBC. The pickup of Law & Order: LA would mean that NBC would likely pick up only one to two more drama pilots. Two UMS produced shows, Grimm and Reconstruction, are still in contention, while Wonder Woman is still up in the air and would need massive retooling. Metro and A Mann’s World are also possibilities. 17th Precinct is most likely not going to series.

On the comedy side, Bent, Untitled Dan Goor, and Untitled Parham/St. Clair are all still in contention, with Warner Bros.-produced Are You There Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea a sure thing.

ABC should also start pickups today, most likely with Good Christian Bitches. The show has been staffing for the past day with “if come” deals.
