Renewals and Cancelations – Fox picks up five, renews 2, ABC picks up 1, NBC picks up another

Because I’ve been a bit out of commission the past few days, I haven’t had a chance to report on some new developments in the TV world.

FIRST – both bubble shows Lie to Me and Human Target have been renewed by FOX. I guess they’re trying to shed their image as the network that cancels everything. However, it’s most likely due to a weaker pilot schedule – there have only been a few shows that have been creating buzz for the network.

FOX’s pickups include RideAlong, about a female police chief in a small county, Traffic Light, Keep Hope Alive, Wilde Kingdom (a Will Arnett comedy that was at one point considered a bit too smart for pickup), and MidLand, a texas drama. MidLand and Wilde Kingdom probably have the most potential. Expect a pickup for Spielberg’s Terra Nova soon.

ABC has picked up No Ordinary Family, staring Julie Benz (she was on Dexter, but more importantly, Darla from Buffy and Angel!)

Expect her to look a bit different.

Here’s the show description from ABC:

The Powells are about to go from ordinary to extraordinary. After 16 years of marriage, Jim and Stephanie’s relationship lacked the spark it once had, and their family life now consists of balancing work and their two children; leaving little time for family bonding. During a family vacation set up by Jim in an attempt to reconnect, their plane crashes into the Amazon River. But this is where the fun starts for the Powells as they soon discover that something’s not quite right. Each of them now possesses unique and distinct super powers. But saving and savoring their family life will be equally important as they try to find purpose for their new power and embark on a journey to find out what defines and unifies them. The Powells are a totally relatable family that happens to be a little bit amazing.

NBC has also picked up another comedy, Perfect Couples, suggesting they might want to start a 2nd comedy block.
The renewal guide as well as the pilot guide have been updated.
